Public Safety and Community Engagement

As Senator, I will continue to work with our Local Stakeholders, County, State, and Federal partners to ensure our First Responders have the necessary resources to perform their jobs safely with regard to their wellbeing. I will continue to work with the Police Chief and Police Unions to improve our law enforcement tactics and community policing. We will implement continuing education and training for officers centered on inclusion, sensitivity, compassion, and understanding the social dynamics of the communities we serve. In order to make our public safety strategy effective and reduce crime in our neighborhoods and parks, we need to create trust, mutual respect, and a shared understanding between law enforcement and the people of Senate District 35.
We need to create an environment in which law enforcement and the community are held accountable for their actions. We also need community members to be engaged and involved in creating policy solutions to tackle crime and create safer neighborhoods across Senate District 35. While accomplishing all this we need to continue to promote the vision of engaging every officer with the districts residents and businesses. Fighting crime in the district and creating a space where everyone can thrive is our number one priority. Crafting this space also includes providing second chances to returning citizens through workforce training and employment opportunities.
For over 25 years, I have been dedicated to fundraising for the Senate district 35 K9 Unit, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the important work of these brave canines and their handlers. As an advocate for a just and equitable police department, I am committed to increasing transparency, accountability, and community policing. I believe that building trust between law enforcement and the community they serve is essential to creating a safer and more equitable society.
In addition, I have been actively advocating for the allocation of more resources towards the cannabis industry to promote equity and enhance public safety. My commitment to prioritizing these aspects will contribute towards building a fairer and more equal society for everyone.
I also strongly support Senate District 35 Police Department’s “Coffee with a Cop” program, which has become a national and international model for community policing. By creating opportunities for police officers to connect with the community they serve, we can build stronger relationships and foster mutual trust and respect. Finally, I am CERT certified for any natural disaster, which means that I am prepared to assist my community in the event of an emergency. By being prepared and working together, we can ensure that our community is resilient and can recover quickly from any disaster.
